Obituary for Austin "Joe" Farris Jr.

Austin "Joe" Farris Jr.
Longtime San Luis Valley resident Austin Joe Farris Jr., 56 passed away peacefully with family and friends by his side January 08, 2018 at the Pikes Peak Hospice Unit in the Penrose St. Francis Hospital, Colorado Springs, CO.

The family would like to thank all the Dr.'s and staff for the care and support they provided Joe at Penrose Hospital and the Pikes Peak Hospice Unit.

Austin Joe Jr. was born August 24,1961, in Batesville, AR., to the late Austin Joe Farris Sr. and Patricia Lou Holland Farris, Fox, AR. Joe was raised in Colorado after his parents moved to southern Colorado from California in 1971, which he has called home ever since.

Joe was dealt with many physical challenges at an early age, but he endured each and every one of them with grace. He had a huge heart, was full of love, life and Laughs. He would have done anything for anyone, if asked.

He attended school at Monte Vista, CO and later enrolled in the welding program at SLV Vocational/Technical School, Monte Vista, CO. He worked different jobs throughout his life.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Some of his interests were watching Denver Bronco football, playing fantasy football, which he had just been introduced to recently, basketball, gardening, and spending time with family. He found most pleasure when he raised game chickens with his father.

Joe met Vivian Gonzales in 1984 and she became his life partner. They enjoyed and shared many memories together loving and spending time together with family.

Austin Joe Jr. Is preceded in death by his father, the late Austin J. Farris, Sr.,Alamosa, CO. He is survived by his mother, Patricia L. Farris, Alamosa, CO, his partner in life Vivian L. Gonzales, Monte Vista, CO, her daughter Jessica Wiegers, San Diego, CA, his sister Tamera (Stan) Townsend, Monte Vista, CO, nephews Matthew and Ethan Higinbotham, and niece Katy Townsend, Monte Vista, CO, his sister Sheila (David) Schwulst, Soda Springs, ID, his nieces Chelsea Merrill, Soda Springs, ID, Kendra Graber, Soda Springs, ID, Allyson Schwulst, Soda Springs, ID, and great nephews Beau Merrill, Ridge Merrill, Trayson Graber and great niece Ainsley Higinbotham.

A Funeral Service will be held in his honor at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa, CO at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 with interment to follow at the Alamosa Cemetery.
