Obituary for William Otto Brubacher

William Otto Brubacher
William (Bill) Brubacher passed away on June 1, 2017. Bill was born to Otto and Gertrude Roberts Brubacher on March 27, 1923 in Center Colorado. Bill was the oldest of three brothers. At the age of 4 the family moved to a farm in the Hooper Area. Bill grew up on the farm and graduated from Hooper High School in 1941. He went to college at A and M in Fort Collins, Colorado for 1 ½ years and returned to work on the farm. On November 11, 1951 he married Betty Jean Cooley from Mosca Colorado. After the wedding he went to work for her Dad at Cooley Equipment Co, an IHC dealership in Alamosa and worked there for 20 years. He worked for NAPA for 10 years and Motor Parts for 5 ½ years until retirement. During retirement he worked in the potato harvest and drove cars for Town and Country. He was most proud of the fact that at the age of 94 he was still delivering parts for his grandson every week up until the week before he passed.

He loved square dancing, snowmobiling, taking trips, driving his car, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed being with his grandkids, great grandkids, and family. He loved going to the numerous sporting events that his grand children were a part of. When he could no longer be there physically, you could guarantee the radio was on so he could listen to the game. Whatever name he went by; Dad, Papa, or G-pop, he is fondly remembered as being feisty, ornery, and extremely stubborn, but he loved his family unconditionally. He once taught the grandkids to play ice hockey with the ice from their soda while dining at a restaurant, much to Grandma’s dismay.

William (Bill) Brubacher was preceded in death by his Mother Gertrude Roberts Brubacher, his father Otto Oscar Brubacher, Brother Edward Brubacher, and his Son Craig Dean Brubacher. He is survived by his wife Betty Brubacher, daughters Rhonda (Randy) Timmins of Alamosa, and Bonnie (Tyler) Ratzlaff of Monte Vista, Daughter-in-law Jodie Brubacher of Alamosa, and Brother John (Leona) Brubacher of Fort Collins. He is also survived by Eight Grand Children and 15 Great Grand Children, and a special friend since 2nd grade in Hooper School, Raymond Versaw of Grand Junction Colorado.

Cremation was chosen. As per Bill’s request there will be no formal services. We will have a memorial service later this summer for close friends and family.

He will be buried alongside his Son at the family cabin.
